Ascend Family Feature: Bryan & Angela

We’re excited to feature Bryan & Angela, better known as Team Maco! They joined Ascend back in January and have become a special part of our Ascend community. Not only have we watched them get stronger and transform their bodies, but their consistency and dedication to not only reaching their goals, but to each other, is nothing short of inspiring. We can’t wait to celebrate this power couple in October when they get married!

How long have you been members at Ascend?

We started at the end of January this year with the two week unlimited deal and we immediately fell in love with the Ascend Cycle structure, environment, and instructors. It made it easy for use to say “yes” to the Couples Unlimited package as we prepare for our October wedding.

Tell us what keeps you coming back to Ascend?

The Ascend Cycle and Underground environment is very welcoming and focused on positive feedback, which makes it a joy to come to each class. But what really keeps us going is each other. It makes it so much easier to commit to a schedule and make sure that we get up and out the door. It’s especially helpful to have someone to lean on when the alarm goes off at 4:45 a.m.! And, of course, seeing strength and cardio gains is reinforcing in itself.

We’re on a very consistent sleep/wake schedule now which makes it easier to get the rest we need. It has improved our overall energy throughout the day. We feel less tired and sharper even though we get up so early during the week. Also, even when it’s a struggle to get out of bed, we always know that we’ll feel amazing after the class.

Tell us more about those fitness results!

In the six months since we began, Angela has lost 6 pounds and Bryan has lost 7. Our family, friends, and coworkers have noticed the difference. Both of us have gotten stronger and more physically capable. Our training zones have expanded significantly since we started the cycling classes and we’re proud to say that our planks have dramatically improved thanks to Underground.

What advice might you tell someone that is new to Ascend?

Getting into a routine and setting a schedule will help you stay on track. You’re going to be sore, especially in the beginning. Stick with it and you’ll surprise yourself.

What do you do?

Angela is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst who provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to children and families.

Bryan is a Senior Researcher at the International Council on Clean Transportation. He works to reduce pollution from large, oceangoing ships and recently has been focusing on Arctic shipping.

Fun fact…GO:

Angela used to practice Krav Maga and Bryan was an Eagle Scout.

What does our motto, “Climb higher, sprint faster, become a better version of yourself.” mean to you?

To us, “climb higher, sprint faster, and become a better version of yourself” means to strive to be better in all aspects of life: personally, professionally, psychologically, and physically. It means pushing beyond the boundaries we have set for ourselves. But it doesn’t mean that we have to do it alone. We lift each other up and we remind ourselves that together we can do anything. And each time we enter the studio, we feel inspired and supported by our Ascend Cycle Fam!
